What is human genome project? Give the aims of Human genome project?
Answer :
Aim of HGP:
Answer :
- Human genome project (HGP) is the study of genes and genomes of human being by DNA sequencing and related analysis.
- Human genome project was started in 1990 in USA co-ordinated by US department of Energy and National Institute of Health.
- The project was completed in 2003.
- HGP-Human genome is a multinational research project to determine the genomic structure of man.
- HGP is mutidisciplinary effort to understand the basis of human heredity genome.
- HGP include comprehensive study of genome which include construction of genetic map of the chromosomes and the sequencing of all genes.
Aim of HGP:
- To generate detailed maps of the human genome.
- To know each and every gene in human.
- To know location of each gene on the chromosome.
- To know the sequence of each gene.
- To know the role / function of each gene.
- The complete sequence of human genome has been described as the blueprint of humanity which helps to understanding our biology and behaviour.
