Multiple Choice Questions on Anemia:

What is anemia?

Anemia is the reduction of the total amount of red blood cells in the systemic circulating blood to below the normal value. However, due to the complexity of the measurement technology of the total amount of red blood cells in the systemic circulating blood, it generally means that the concentration of hemoglobin in the peripheral blood is lower than the normal standard of the same age group, the same sex and the same region of the patient.

The reduction of red blood cell count in patients with anemia is generally proportional to the reduction of hemoglobin concentration, but the reduction of red blood cell count in microcytic hypochromic anemia is relatively less than that of hemoglobin, so that the red blood cell count may not be lower than normal when the anemia is mild. Conversely, in macrocytic anemia, the hemoglobin concentration is relatively high and the red blood cell count is low.

There are three main reasons for the formation of anemia: poor hematopoietic function (often due to stem cell defects, insufficient hematopoietic raw materials, and the invasion of bone marrow by foreign cells or substances), excessive destruction of red blood cells and blood loss.
